Am I really open minded?

I write this assuming what I say won’t be judged, much. Most of the people who read this blog of mine are open minded people but sometimes there’s a level where that open-minded ends for example while I don’t judge homosexuals I can’t stand it if two guys made out in front of me. I don’t mind a girl and boy did it or even girl and girl but boy and boy gives me a headache and makes me feel like puking!

So I’m left wondering if that makes me homophobic or just gay phobic. Does  it make me a hypocrite for accepting one side of homosexuality and being repulsed by the other? And anyway I find chi cs making out really sexy but if I meet a truly lesbian person would I be as accepting? (up until this point I’ve only ever met bisexual girls and, I think, one lesbian). Also as a Christian and a person I think homosexuality is wrong but I still accept it and try not to judge. Is that a bad thing? Thinking that its wrong?

Also there’s this whole thing of asexuality that I just learnt about the other day. I’ve always assumed everyone would be able to feel some sort of sexual attraction. I find it strange that someone(well here I mean mostly dudes) can feel nothing(sexually) when confronted with a sexy girl. But then again I can totally accept it(more than homosexuality). And I’m wondering if its because it doesn’t really affect me(physiologically) or that I truly accept it because there have been times in my life that I’ve felt devoid of any sexual feelings.

These are questions that I ask myself all the time when considering sexuality. I think I can sum this up into a single question: Am I really open minded or do I just force myself to accept? Sound off in the comments about what you think, if you have answers to my question(s), whether you ask yourself the same questions or about what you think. I think I’ll talk about heterosexuality next. As always, peace!!

  1. Hi Cd
You just made me smile, you said you are open minded: then you explain why you are not. LOL

Read your blog and am wondering why "gay" all the time? Has appeared quite a lot for a straight dude. Nasema tu, just saying.

Just because you say you are not homophobic and don't mind gays making out but not making out in front of you is really funny, homophobia appears in a whole lot of levels not only patriarch, bigoted who call people faggots and say gays should be burned are tagged as homophobic. Sorry but yours above is categorized as homophobia.

And lastly do gays any of your gay friends make out in front of you? That's so wrong

    Oops! just saying.
    Mary

  2. Thanks for your comment Mary. I don't have gay friends. So I'm homophobic? Hmmm…interesting. Anyway I'm here to make people smile! The reason there's so much "gay" on my blog is that this thing is young and I cover mostly what intrigues me and "gay" does. That sounds gay. LMAO!

  3. According to me, you are not homophobic. The fact that you do not have "an irrational fear of homosexuals" shows simply that. Define homophobia as is.

On the other hand, the fact that you can't stand two men kissing or PDA is understandable since you are straight and therefore attracted to women and also thus, why it seems 'hot' when two lesbians kiss for you.

Stop worrying too much and be happy that you are far far more tolerant and humane than the people that preach to you on the pulpit every sunday claiming to be following Jesus' footsteps.(mind you am a believer too!).

Be thankful that you are yes, open minded and can accept the fact that we are a human race full of diversity and we should be able to embrace it wholly.

Lastly, about talking lots about gays, aah! So what? It is indeed the topic of the times, no? But then if it disturbs you, stop it. If it doesnt then go ahead, we need peeps like you in the struggle!

    I rest my case.

    Mwahest!

  4. I think you are a very open-minded person. So far no-one I know has reacted so positively to asexuality when I told them about it.

As to your fear of being homophobic because seeing two guys kissing makes you uncomfortable or sick… Well, that's just one thing. But it's not really important compared to the fact that you don't judge gay people. You are willing to be accepting if one of your friends was gay, and that's the most important thing.

I confess that I don't get the whole "my religion tells me homosexuality is wrong", but that's because I do not have a religion so I cannot understand the influence it can have on people. I find it hard to see what is "wrong" about homosexuality – it is about love and how can love be wrong? But that's not the point. What matters is that you make efforts. You don't just stick to "homosexuality is wrong" and reject all gay and lesbian people you might meet on that principle. You try to be accepting and understanding. That's important.

I don't think people are born open-minded. It is something that one learns. My parents taught me to be open-minded on most things, so it comes more easily to me. Maybe you were not raised to be open-minded about homosexuality, but you are still trying to be. That means a lot.

Being open-minded does not necessarily mean accepting everything easily. Working on accepting things counts too. So yes, I think you are open-minded. You are trying to accept new things and not to judge. That's the definition of open-minded to me.

  5. Thanks @Sgyreju I do get worried most times about being open minded but I think I am. I won't lie to you religion plays a massive role in my life and affects a lot of my view on things in the world. But I always try to look at things from all possible angles. Thanks for commenting…
