You Ought to Watch the AlphaGo Movie
In March 2016, AlphaGo beat Lee Sodol, one of the world’s top players of the Chinese game Go, by 4-1, marking the end of what was probably the last great board game AI had to conquer.
What makes Go a particularly difficult problem for computers to at least in the traditional (simplistic) approach is that the number of possible combination moves number more than the atoms in the universe. So it’s impossible to brute force it with the entirety of the computing power we have. Thus it was a good problem for finding alternative approaches.

Design Thinking in Data Science
In August of 2019, I was invited by my friend Preston Adie of Africa’s Talking to attended a panel discussion called “AI in Kenya” with 3 other smart practitioners in the Kenyan data science space: Babatunde Ekemode of Africa’s Talking, Skyler Spearman of IBM, and Fiona Rasanga of Griffin Insurance.
The discussion was wide, ranging from what we thought the state of data science in Kenya was to what trends we saw. It was interesting, and I hope some video of the conversation comes out.

Uploading Videos Longer than 30 seconds to Twitter using Twython
Long time guys. I don’t really have a good excuse for why, because my excuse is laziness.
Anyway, I’m currently working on a personal project that involves uploading video to twitter. I don’t want to go into more details because I might never finish it, and I really don’t want too many people asking what happened.
While I was using it to upload some video, I encountered an error that I couldn’t easily fix:

Thoughts on CA and NCIC's Social Media Guidelines for Political Messaging
The Communication Authority of Kenya(CA) & National Cohesion and Integration Commission(NCIC) published guidelines dealing with bulk SMSes and social media[PDF] for public consultation. The entire document is an interesting read and I encourage you to read it yourself; I would love to hear what you think in the comments. For this post, I’ll focus on Part 2 of the document: Guiidlines(sic) with regards to the use of social media for political messaging.

2 reasons we should stop calling it 'the Jubilee' Government
Today I’d like to put to you something that you may have noticed, or not. Whenever you watch news these days and the government is mentioned it is referred to as “the Jubilee Government” which is very accurate as they control both the executive, the legislature (both houses) and, depending on whom you ask, the judiciary too. I can’t really fault the media for reporting something that is an obvious fact but I think it’s time we stopped referring to them as “the Jubilee government” and just call them “the government”

Issues with the Access to Information Bill
Sometimes I write about my interpretation of the law, bills and policy documents that come from the government and various other stakeholders. I’m not a lawyer and I’ve never studied law but as a citizen of this country I’m allowed to comment on these things. It’s my constitutional right. Consider that the disclaimer.

One of the bills that I’m particularly excited to see passed is the Access to Information Bill(referred to henceforth as A2I which is so much cooler) which just went through it’s 2nd reading in parliament. This bill codifies our constitutional right to access of information found in Article 35 of the Kenyan Constitution. Which states:
